Detailed Description
The AR Open Air Culinary Refrigerator uses a fan-assisted refrigeration system to circulate cooled air through the storage compartment. Refrigerated discharge air enters the cabinet, while return air is drawn back toward the cooling system. A condenser coil releases heat through the ventilated lower section, so the intake and exhaust paths must remain unobstructed.
Door models include an adjustable enclosed shelf system, a magnetic door switch, a door lock, and a reversible door assembly. Drawer models use two self-closing drawers and may include adjustable drawer dividers. Both configurations include adjustable leveling legs. Turn a leg clockwise to lower that corner and counterclockwise to raise it.
The lower front grille provides access for cleaning the intake and exhaust area, the external temperature sensor, and the condenser coil. It also provides access to the USB port. Keep the USB cover closed and latched except when performing an authorized data export or firmware update.
The serial plate is located near the upper portion of the inside left wall. Record the model, serial number, and installation date for your appliance records.
Safety
- For outdoor use only. Do not install the refrigerator in or on a recreational vehicle or boat.
- Connect the appliance directly to a properly grounded three-prong receptacle. Never cut off or remove the grounding prong.
- Do not use an extension cord with this refrigerator.
- Do not spray, splash, or hose water onto the refrigerator. Moisture entering electrical components can cause shock, injury, or death.
- R290 is flammable. Do not puncture refrigerant tubing or use mechanical devices to accelerate defrosting.
- Do not attempt sealed-system service unless you are qualified to work with flammable refrigerants and have followed the appropriate service procedures.
- Dispose of the appliance and refrigerant in accordance with applicable federal and local requirements.
- Keep the front and rear ventilation areas clear of furniture, stored items, packaging, and other obstructions.
- The door is heavy. Support it securely during removal or reversal to prevent bodily injury or damage.
Installation and Location
Choose a location away from direct sunlight and other heat sources. The refrigerator must operate in a properly ventilated area within the specified ambient-temperature range. Excessive heat, blocked airflow, or inadequate clearance can reduce cooling performance and increase operating time.
For a built-in installation, provide at least 2 inches of clearance behind and beneath the unit. The installation should also allow the refrigerator to be pulled out for servicing. Keep the lower front intake and exhaust grille unobstructed after the unit is installed.
Use only the supplied power cord. Plug it directly into a grounded 115 VAC receptacle, preferably on a GFCI-protected circuit, in accordance with applicable electrical codes. Do not energize the appliance until it is correctly positioned, leveled, and ventilated.
Setup and Operation
Initial startup
After the refrigerator is connected to power, the controller begins its startup sequence. A boot screen appears for approximately 10 to 20 seconds. The date and time setup then appears because the controller records operating conditions with a time stamp.
- Enter the month and day.
- Enter the year.
- Select the current time using the 12-hour format.
- Choose AM or PM.
- Swipe in the indicated direction to exit the initial setup.
The refrigerator starts with its factory-configured operating mode. After power is restored, or after refrigeration is switched back on, the compressor may wait approximately two minutes before starting. This delay protects the refrigeration system.
Controller functions
The touch-sensitive controller can turn refrigeration on or off, adjust the temperature setpoint, select Fahrenheit or Centigrade, change the date and time, and adjust lighting. Swipe left or right to move between available screens. Indicator dots in the upper-right corner show the current screen and the number of screens available.
- Temperature controls: Use the plus and minus controls to raise or lower the setpoint.
- Refrigeration: Use the control menu to stop or restart cooling.
- Temperature units: Toggle between Fahrenheit and Centigrade.
- Lighting: Select from eight brightness levels and available light colors.
- Always-on lighting: Available for the glass-door configuration.
- Date and time: Re-enter or adjust these values through the date-and-time menu.
Display symbols
- Setpoint temperature: Shows the selected cabinet temperature.
- Compressor running: Indicates compressor operation.
- Cooling fan on: Indicates that the cooling fan is operating.
- Defrost active: Indicates an active defrost cycle.
- Door open: Indicates that the door or drawer is not closed.
- Light on: Indicates that interior lighting is active.
- Alarm: Indicates an active alarm condition.
- Outside temperature: Shows the reading from the external temperature sensor.
Power interruptions
If refrigeration was on when power was interrupted, the refrigerator resumes operation using the previous refrigeration and temperature settings after power returns. If refrigeration had been turned off, the appliance returns to that mode. When the appliance remains unplugged for more than 48 hours, the date and time reset, while the refrigeration state, temperature, light color, and brightness settings remain stored.
Service data and firmware
The controller includes menus for exporting operating data and installing firmware updates. To export data, insert a USB memory device into the port behind the lower front grille and select the number of days to export. Existing information on the USB device is erased before the export begins, so use a dedicated device.
Firmware updates require the appropriate update files on a USB memory device and are intended for service use. Keep the USB cover closed and latched whenever the port is not being used.
Shelf and Drawer Adjustments
Shelves and drawers use separable slides that allow their height or position to be changed. Work with the refrigerator stable and empty enough to safely handle the component.
- Extend the shelf or drawer slides completely.
- Push the red release lever on the right side downward and the lever on the left side upward.
- Separate the shelf or drawer slides from the refrigerator body tracks.
- Lift the front of each body track, tilt it slightly, and pull it forward to remove it from its current position.
- Insert the rear tab of the body track into the rear track standard at a slight angle.
- Align the front tab with the front track standard and press the track downward until it is straight and level.
- Repeat the installation on the opposite side.
- Extend the middle section of each track.
- Align the shelf or drawer slides with the black plastic guides and push the component fully into the refrigerator until the slides click into place.
If the shelf or drawer does not glide smoothly after installation, pull it fully outward and loosen the four attachment screws by one complete turn. Push the component completely inward so the self-closing mechanism engages, then press down at the center to align both sides. Pull it outward gradually and tighten the two front screws first, followed by the rear screws.
Door Reversal
The door is supplied hinged on the right side and can be changed to open from the left. Door reversal applies to door models only and requires the supplied hinge components, fasteners, rivets, shim, and 1/8-inch Allen key.
- Unplug the refrigerator or switch refrigeration off through the controller.
- Open the door and support its weight securely.
- Loosen the upper hinge socket screws approximately two turns.
- Lift and tilt the upper hinge forward to release it from the screws and pivot pin.
- Lift the door from the lower hinge and set it aside safely.
- Remove the unused plastic rivets, lock latch components if fitted, and the right-side lower body hinge.
- Keep the factory shim, if present, for reuse on the opposite side.
- Remove the lower door hinge and magnetic-switch magnet from the door, but leave the plastic pivot bushing in place.
- Move the magnet to the opposite door position and install the supplied left lower door hinge.
- Install the left lower body hinge and leave its screws loose enough for alignment.
- Place the door on the new lower hinge, install the upper hinge, and secure the door.
- Align the door with the cabinet, then tighten the upper and lower hinge screws.
- Install plastic rivets in unused screw openings and reinstall the lock latch when applicable.
- Restore power and verify that the door closes, seals, and activates the magnetic switch correctly.
Cleaning and Maintenance
After use, wipe stainless-steel surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Rinse with clean water, preferably warm water, and dry the surface. For oil, grease, and water deposits, apply a multipurpose cream cleanser to a soft damp cloth, then rinse thoroughly.
- Do not use harsh abrasives, scouring powders, wire brushes, scrapers, or contaminated pads.
- Do not spray or hose the appliance during cleaning.
- Clean the lower intake and exhaust grille regularly.
- Keep the condenser coil free of dust and debris.
- Clean the outside temperature sensor carefully without wetting electrical components.
- Rinse bleach immediately if it contacts stainless steel; concentrated bleach can cause surface pitting.
- Do not allow concentrated salt or vinegar mixtures to remain on stainless steel for extended periods.
Brown rust-colored marks are often surface deposits from ordinary steel particles, wire wool, carbon-steel utensils, or similar sources rather than corrosion of the stainless steel itself. Remove them with a soft damp cloth and multipurpose cream cleanser. Persistent marks may require a cleaner specifically intended for stainless steel.
Troubleshooting
Refrigerator is not cooling enough
Lower the cabinet temperature using the digital thermostat. Confirm that the front and rear ventilation paths are clear and that the door or drawers close completely.
Unit is noisy
Verify that the refrigerator is level. Adjust the leveling legs and reposition the unit if necessary. Fans, airflow, and compressor operation can also produce normal operating sounds.
Moisture appears inside or on the cabinet
Warm, humid air can condense on cold surfaces. Reduce the frequency and duration of door openings, confirm that the gasket seals around the entire perimeter, and check the temperature setting. If the cabinet is set excessively cold, raise the temperature slightly.
Appliance runs for long periods
Longer operating cycles are expected in hot or humid weather and when the door is opened frequently or left open for extended periods. This condition is generally not harmful when ventilation is adequate and the cabinet reaches the selected temperature.
Alarm is displayed
Close the door or drawers to reset a door alarm. For other alarms, use the alarm menu to identify the condition. If an alarm remains active after basic checks, the appliance requires qualified service attention.
Warranty
The refrigerator includes a two-year limited warranty for defects in materials and workmanship affecting refrigerator components. The coverage includes parts and labor when service is performed by an authorized factory servicer.
The sealed refrigeration system has a five-year limited warranty covering the compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier, and connecting tubing for qualifying defects in materials or workmanship. The warranty does not cover installation, startup, routine temperature adjustment, cleaning, general maintenance, shipping damage, misuse, accident, alteration, improper ventilation, unauthorized service, unauthorized parts, or damage caused by installation that does not follow applicable codes and instructions.
Warranty coverage applies to normal household use and may be voided by tampering, negligence, improper installation, misuse, or service by an unauthorized agency.
