Evenflo Barn Door Walk-Thru Safety Gate 4461000 Gate Assembly
WARNING: DO NOT remove the cardboard cover (or plastic tie beneath it) at this time, or serious injury may result.
Measure and record the width of the opening where you will use the gate.
If the opening is wider than 33.75 in. (85.73 cm), refer to page 2 for Proper Set-Up Configurations.
- NOTE: If the frame extension is not required, go to Step 3.
- If frame extension is required, insert small extension pins D into the upper and lower openings in the gate frame A, as shown. Push the appropriate frame extension B onto the extension pins D. Make sure the plastic caps on the gate frame A and the gate extension B touch each other. The plastic caps MUST touch each other to securely install the frame extension.
NOTE: Frame extension can be installed on either side of the gate.
Push four adjustment bumpers C into the corners of the gate frame A or the frame extension B.
- NOTE: Make sure the adjustment bumpers are pushed all the way in.
- WARNING: Distance between gate frame and door frame should be equal on both sides, and NEVER exceed 2.75 in. (6.9 cm). If 2.75 in. (6.9 cm) is exceeded
- Position gate A on the floor in the center of the opening, making sure that it is straight up and down (90º to the floor).
- NOTE: Adjustment bumpers may mark some mounting surfaces.
NOTE: If not installing the gate at the top of stairs, go to step 8.
- WARNING: Mounting caps MUST be installed to use the gate at the top of stairs.
- Peel backing off one side of adhesive pad F. Adhere pad to the outside of mounting cap E, as shown. Peel backing off the other side of the adhesive pad, and place the mounting cap over the end of the adjustment bumper D.
- NOTE: Make sure the gate stays straight up and down (90º to floor) and in the center of the door frame during this process. Slide the adjustment bumper D out of the gate frame toward the door frame until the mounting cap sticks to the door frame. Repeat this for the other three mounting caps.
- Once all four mounting caps are in place, remove the gate from the opening to secure the mounting caps to the door frame with supplied screws H. Tighten all four screws securely with a handheld Phillips screwdriver, but do not overtighten.
- NOTE: If mounting to drywall, mark the center of the mounting caps. Pull mounting caps off the wall. Drill holes and insert wall anchors G. Secure mounting caps with screws. Tighten all four screws securely with a handheld Phillips screwdriver, but do not overtighten.
Position gate A on the floor in line with the mounting caps.
- Turn both upper adjustment bumpers D and both lower adjustment bumpers D until all four contact the door frame or mounting caps. Check that the gate is still straight up and down then turn each bumper two more full rotations or until tight.
Test to make sure the gate frame assembly is secure by firmly shaking it. If it moves, it needs to be re-installed. Repeat steps 8 – 9.
- WARNING: BEFORE removing the CARDBOARD COVER and cutting the PLASTIC TIE, ENSURE the gate is securely in place or serious injury may result.
With your gate securely in place, remove the cardboard cover, then cut and discard the plastic tie.
- Adjust both upper bumpers D equally until the gap between the handle J and latch K is .04 in. (1 mm) and tops align horizontally as shown below.
Inspect the gate. Make sure it swings freely and latches securely.
When using at the top or bottom of stairs, pivot the swing stop L down to the locked position on the opposite side of the gate from the stairs. This will prevent opening the gate into the stairway. In all other locations, pivot the swing stop down to the locked position on the side of the gate that the child occupies.
- To open the gate, slide and hold the release button M. Lift up on gate handle J and swing the gate open.
- To close the gate, gently push the gate closed.
When indicator N is green, the gate is latched. When the indicator is red, the gate is NOT latched.
Care and Maintenance
- Wash the gate with mild soap and warm water and dry thoroughly before using.
- Metal and plastic parts can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth and dried with a soft cloth. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- An occasional drop of vegetable oil may reduce wear and tear on moving parts.
