Free Spirit Pet Products Remote Trainer FS-TRN How It Works
The Free Spirit Remote Trainer can be used to both stop bad behaviors and teach your dog good behaviors. The trainer has tone (beep), vibration and 99 levels of shock. The easy-to-use design only requires a press of the action button and the signal is sent to the training collar. A second training collar can be added to the same remote (extra training collar sold separately) for a 2-dog trainer. The remote and training collar are rechargeable. The training collar is waterproof.
- Tone: beeps to get your dog’s attention or mark a behavior, similar to a clicker
- Vibration: vibrates the training collar to get your dog’s attention or mark a behavior
- Shock: administers a shock with 99 levels of intensity
- To assemble the training collar, first thread the training collar as shown in the illustration.
- Plug in and fully charge the remote and training collar. The battery icon on the remote will cycle while charging and then remain solid when it is fully charged. The training collar’s LED will be solid red when charging and will turn off when the training collar is fully charged.
- To test the training collar, ensure that the remote is paired with the training collar (see pairing instructions in the “Add-A-Dog® Pairing” section below).
- Place both contact points on your skin, and press the red action button. Both contact points must be touching the skin to emit a shock.
- To assure a proper fit, please follow these steps: a. Start with the training collar turned off and your dog standing comfortably, not sitting. b. Place the training collar on your dog’s neck with the contact points touching the skin. c. Insert one finger between the training collar and your dog’s neck to check the tightness. The fit should be snug but not constricting. d. Allow your dog to wear the training collar for several minutes, then recheck the fit. Check the fit again as your dog becomes more comfortable with the training collar. NOTE: It is sometimes necessary to trim the hair around the contact area to make sure that contact is consistent. However, you should never shave your pet’s neck as this may increase risk of skin irritation.
- Turn the training collar on, start at the lowest level of shock and only move up as needed. Your dog may respond by flicking his ears or scratching at his training collar, but he should never yelp.
- The remote has a power-save feature that will allow standby after 5 minutes without use. Press any button on the remote to reactivate. Note that pressing any of the correction buttons will reactivate the remote. The button must be pressed a second time to send a correction.
- For your dog’s safety, the remote will automatically time-out after 10 seconds of shock. You will have to release and press the action button again to administer another shock.
*The 330-yard range is based on a straight-line distance between the remote and the training collar without obstacles. Interferences in the air, obstacles in the area and other factors could alter the range, so actual distances may vary.
Add-A-Dog Pairing
With the purchase of a Free Spirit® Add-A-Dog® training collar, this remote can be paired with two collars. Ensure that the remote is on the correct Dog 1/2 setting when pairing a training collar, and follow the steps below.
- Turn the training collar off.
- Press and hold the on/off button. The LED light will turn on, then off in 4-5 seconds.
- After the training collar LED has turned off, release the on/off button.
- Press the Dog 1/2 button to select the correct setting for the training collar you would like to pair. The included training collar should be paired with Dog 1, while an Add-A-Dog® training collar should be paired with Dog 2.
- With the correct Dog 1/2 setting selected on the remote, press and hold any button on the remote until the training collar LED light flashes 5 times.
- Pairing is now complete and the trainer is ready to use.
