The pump is also lightweight and portable, making it easy to move around the pool or store away when not in use.

Warnings

  1. WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, do not permit children to use this product unless they are closely supervised at all times. This pump should not be used to drain the pool or spa cover if there are people in the water. This pump has been investigated for draining swimming pool or spa covers only.
  2. WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Connect only to a ground-ing type receptacle protected by a ground-fault circuit inter-rupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the receptacle is protected by a GFCI.
  3. WARNING: Do not bury cord. Locate cord to minimize contact with lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, and other equipment.
  4. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, replace pump that has a damaged cord immediately
  5. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not use extension cord to connect unit to electric supply; provide a properly-located outlet.
  6. Never pump chemicals or corrosive liquids with this pump. This could damage the integrity of the enclosure and cause an electrical short. This pump has been

evaluated for use with water only.

  7. Never pump gasoline or other low flash point fluids with this pump. Explosion or fire could result. This pump has been evaluated for use with water only.
  8. If service is required, proceed carefully. The pump and sur-rounding areas may be covered with water. Never plug or unplug the device while standing in wet or damp surfaces. If necessary, remove power at the breaker panel or have certi-fied electrician remove power before attempting to service. Serious or fatal shocks could result if proper procedures are not followed.
    • Disconnect the power at the main electrical service box by switching the appropriate circuit breaker or removing fuse. In applications where screw type fuses are used, remove only with one hand while other hand or torso are free from contact with anything. Do not stand in water and do not touch any other conductive surfaces.

    • Remove pump cord plug only after the power to the supply outlet has been removed. See Service Instructions before proceeding.

  9. Remove pump when conditions will cause water to freeze. Freezing water may result in rupture to pump and could result in possible electrical short.

INSTALLATION

Do not energize pump (connect to power source) until pump is properly located on pool cover.
Be certain electrical outlet to be used meets the requirements of the National Electrical code, as well as local electrical codes, including grounding and GFCI protection. Also verify that outlet is properly sized and located for this pump. Your installation may require a certified electrician or plumber. See ELECTRICAL sec-tion.
If necessary, check your plumbing codes to verify that final instal-lation will be in compliance with their requirements.

  1. Remove the pump from the carton and install the hose adap-tor to the pump discharge.
  2. Connect a garden hose to the hose adaptor. The free end of the discharge hose must be secured so that it cannot blow back onto the pool cover in high wind.
  3. Gently lower pump onto the pool cover by holding on to the garden hose. Be certain that you do not pull power cord plug onto pool cover. Use garden hose to position pump on the pool cover. It is recommended that two people position the pump. One person should hold onto electrical cord plug while second person positions pump at desired location on pool cover. Once in position, the pump is ready for testing. See ELECTRICAL section.

NOTE: Become familiar with the SAFETY GUIDELINES. During the rainy season, you should check daily to see that your pump is functioning properly. Also, if you experience high winds or exces-sive movement of the pool cover, be certain that the power supply cord has not been pulled onto the cover and that the pump is still oriented with the discharge hose properly positioned. If you plan to be away from your pool for extended periods of time, it is rec-ommended that a friend or neighbor periodically check your pool cover pump and verify that everything is still functioning properly. Be sure to review the SAFETY GUIDELINES and ELECTRICAL sections with them!

ELECTRICAL WARNINGS

  1. This pump is provided with a three-prong grounding plug. The third prong grounds the pump and reduces the risk of electric shock hazard. Do not remove the third prong from the plug or alter the cord in any way. When pump is in operation, make sure it is properly connected to a grounded outlet. For additional safety, a GFCI device is recommended either at the outlet supplying power to the pump or at the circuit breaker panel box.
  2. A separate branch electrical circuit is recommended. The electrical power required is 5 amp at 115 VAC.
  3. Be sure that the electrical connection cannot be reached by rising water. Under no circumstances should the connection be located where it may become flooded or submerged by water.

Always disconnect the electrical power before touching the pump, discharge, or electrical plug. Failure to do so can result in serious bodily injury and/or property damage. Always connect pump to grounded receptacle. See SAFETY GUIDELINES.

OPERATION

DANGER: This pump is intended to remove water from your pool cover to help prevent damage, but is not intended to be a life-saving device to prevent drowning in pool cover water. Accumulated water does present a potential drowning hazard and pool owner must take actions to prevent this should the pump fail to operate.

  1. This pump can be placed in any orientation.
  2. This pump must be operated with its volute intake below the liquid level. The water must be at least 2-1/2" deep for the pump to operate correctly. The pump will lose its prime (draw air and stop pumping) when water depth falls below this level.
  3. Do not attempt to restrict the intake side of this pump. Restricting the intake may cause damage to the pump. If you require reduced flow rates, place a valve on the discharge side of the pump or - if flexible vinyl tubing is used - a clamp on the tubing to restrict the flow.
  4. Test the pump after installation. Run water into area where pump is to be placed. Do not attempt to run the pump without water; this could cause damage to the pump. Plug pump into a GFCI-protected power source and allow the pump to remove water.
  5. Monitor the pump's operation and immediately disconnect power when no water is being pumped through the discharge hose. Remove residual water with a mop or squeegee.  Do not let the pump operate dry. It is designed to be cooled by pumping fluid. You may damage the pump and the motor may fail if the pump is allowed to run dry.
  6. If the pump is going to be idle for a period of time, follow the cleaning instructions outlined in the SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS section. Do not let the pump freeze in the wintertime. This may cause cracking or distortion that may destroy the unit.

SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS

  1. CAUTION: Before servicing the pump, disconnect the pump from electrical service, unplug cord, remove fuse or turn off disconnect box.
  2. The motor housing of the pump is completely sealed and requires no service. Disassembly of the motor housing or alteration of the power cord voids all warranty.
  3. Keep the pump clean and in a well-maintained condition at all times. The pump should be thoroughly cleaned for sum-mer storage. If the pump becomes clogged, remove the intake screen and clean out the debris.
  4. To disassemble the pump for cleaning:
    • Unthread and remove the intake screen.
    • Remove the volute plate by twisting it counterclockwise.
    • Remove the impeller assembly by pulling it straight out.
    • Use a brush to clean any corrosion or debris from the impeller, shaft, and impeller cavity.
    • Reassemble the parts in reverse order. The pump is now ready for use.
