Installation: Schlage FE575 Keypad Lock Instruction Manual
Content
Overview
The FE575 Keypad Lock is a battery-powered keypad entry lock for standard residential doors. It lets users unlock the exterior lever with a programmed four-digit code or the supplied mechanical key, while the interior lever provides a direct exit function.
Its automatic relocking design is suited to homes, offices, utility rooms, and other spaces where the door should return to the locked state after a valid entry. The lock is field-reversible, allowing the levers to be configured for either door handing.

Detailed Description
The exterior keypad assembly accepts the programmed access codes and connects to the latch through an internal bar. The bar must pass cleanly through the latch opening for the mechanism to operate correctly.
The interior assembly includes the inside lever, shorter knob, battery compartment, and programming components. The outside assembly uses the longer knob. The latch retracts when an authorized code is entered, allowing the outside lever to operate temporarily. The inside lever can be used to open the door from inside without entering a code.
The FE575 Keypad Lock includes a six-digit programming code for managing user codes. A valid user code temporarily unlocks the exterior entry function, and the lock returns to its locked condition according to its automatic relocking operation.
Safety
- Do not use a power drill during installation. Tighten the fasteners with a screwdriver.
- Keep the door open while installing and testing the lock to prevent accidental lockout.
- Confirm the door dimensions before installation. The lock is designed for a 2 3/8-inch or 2 3/4-inch backset, a 2 1/8-inch cross-bore, and a 1-inch edge bore.
- Use the correct faceplate for the door edge. A door with no mortise requires the circular faceplate.
- Remove the product from its packaging with a screwdriver rather than forcing the components apart.
Setup and Operation
Prepare the Door
- Measure the backset and confirm that it is either 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches.
- Verify the 2 1/8-inch cross-bore and 1-inch latch-edge bore.
- Inspect the door edge. Keep the installed faceplate if it matches a mortised edge; change to the circular faceplate when the edge has no mortise.
- Gather a Phillips screwdriver, tape measure, and pencil. A flathead screwdriver, wood block, and hammer may be useful for optional preparation work.
Install the Lock
- Position the latch in the door edge with the angled side facing the door jamb. Use a wood block and hammer only if gentle seating is necessary.
- Secure the strike to the jamb with the four latch and strike screws.
- Install the 9-volt battery in the battery compartment.
- Fit the keypad assembly onto the door. Check that its connecting bar slides smoothly through the latch opening. If it binds, stop and recheck the door measurements and latch alignment.
- Install the inside lever with the two lever screws.
- Slide the longer outside knob and shorter inside knob onto their respective sides of the interior and exterior assembly.
Reverse the Levers When Needed
Inspect the installed lever before tightening everything fully. If its orientation is incorrect for the door, use the supplied pin wrench to press and hold the release hole in the lever, then pull the lever away. Repeat the process on the opposite side, exchange the levers, and press each one back into position. If the lever already matches the correct orientation, no change is required.
Test the Installation
- Leave the door open.
- Locate User Code A on the supplied instruction material.
- Enter the four-digit User Code A on the keypad.
- Rotate and release the exterior lever.
- Confirm that the latch retracts and then extends again. This indicates that the lock is installed correctly.
The lock remains automatically locked until a valid user code is entered.
Add a User Code
- Enter the six-digit programming code.
- Press the programming command shown in the lock’s programming sequence.
- Enter the new four-digit user code.
- Enter the same four-digit code again.
- Wait for the keypad’s three orange lights and three beeps during each confirmation stage.
- Successful storage is indicated by one green light and a long beep.
The first four digits of a new user code must differ from the first four digits of the programming code.
Delete a User Code
- Enter the six-digit programming code.
- Press the programming command for deleting a code.
- Enter the four-digit user code to be removed.
- Enter the same code again.
- Wait for the orange-light and beep confirmations.
- One green light and one long beep confirm deletion.
Change the Programming Code
- Enter the current six-digit programming code.
- Press the programming command for changing the code.
- Enter the new six-digit programming code.
- Enter the new code a second time.
- Wait for the confirmation light and beep sequence.
- One green light and a long beep indicate a successful change.
The first four digits of the new programming code must differ from the first four digits of every user code currently stored in the lock.
Troubleshooting
- The latch retracts but does not extend: The latch may be binding. Recheck the keypad bar, latch alignment, door dimensions, and the installation step where the keypad passes through the latch.
- Nothing happens when testing: Confirm that the battery is installed correctly and recheck the battery installation step.
- The keypad or lever feels difficult to operate: Do not force the mechanism. Verify that the latch is correctly oriented, the strike is aligned with the latch, and the connecting bar moves freely.
- The lever faces the wrong direction: Remove and exchange the levers using the supplied pin wrench, then press each lever firmly back into place.
- The faceplate does not match the door edge: Use the mortised faceplate for a mortised edge or install the circular faceplate when the edge has no mortise.
