Description

The Kidsembrace Astronaut 2-in-1 Harness Car Seat is designed with your child's safety and comfort in mind. The adjustable 5-point harness and side impact protection system ensure a secure and safe fit for your child. The car seat can be easily converted from a forward-facing harness car seat to a high-back booster seat as your child grows. Operation and Adjustment

Shoulder Harness Adjustment:

To Tighten:

• Pull the front adjuster strap (Fig. 1).

  

To Loosen or Lengthen:

• Grasp the harness straps.

• Lift up on the harness adjustment lever (Fig. 2).

  

• Pull out on the harness straps.

Changing Shoulder Harness Position

Shoulder harness straps must be through shoulder harness slots closest to and above the child’s shoulder (Fig. 3). When top shoulder harness slots are below the child’s shoulders or the child weighs 65 lbs.  (30 kg) and is over 3  years old, convert the car seat to a booster car seat.

To Change Shoulder Harness Slots:

1. From the back of the seat, remove sewn loops at the ends of shoulder harness straps from the Metal Splitter Plate (Fig. 1).
2. From the front of the seat, pull shoulder harness straps out of slots in the seat back and seat pad.
3. Thread ends of shoulder harness straps through desired shoulder harness slots in the seat pad and seat back (Fig. 2).

4. From the back of the seat, thread sewn loops on the shoulder harness straps onto the Metal Splitter Plate (Fig. 3). 

   

   Make sure both sides of the shoulder harness straps are placed into slots on the Metal Splitter Plate.

   

WARNING! Failure to re-attach the harness to the Metal Splitter Plate correctly can cause serious injury or death.

Removing Harness

To remove shoulder harness straps:

1. From the back of the seat, unfasten the shoulder harness straps from the metal splitter plate (Fig. 1).

   

2. Store a metal splitter plate under the seat.
3. From the front of the seat (Fig. 2), pull shoulder harness straps through shoulder harness slots A
4. Unthread shoulder harness straps from:
   • Harness strap covers B (optional), harness retainer C , and buckle tongues D.Pull shoulder harness straps out through the bottom of the seat bottom E. Please keep the Energy Absorbing Harness Pads with the harness for future use.  
     To remove the crotch belt with buckle: 

5. Turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide out of the crotch belt slot(s) in the shell.

   

Changing Crotch Belt Position

The crotch strap MUST be in the opening closest to but not under the child. Raise the seat pad from the seat surface, pulling the buckle down through the pad. Remove the crotch belt by turning the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and sliding out of the crotch belt slot(s) in the shell.

To Secure Crotch Strap in Forward Crotch Belt Slot:

1. Turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide all the way through the car seat shell in the forward crotch belt slot (Fig. 1).

   

   Pull up on belt to make sure it is properly secured.

To Secure Crotch Strap in Rear Crotch Belt Slot

1. From the top of the car seat, hold the crotch strap so that the red release button is facing the front of the car seat.
2. Turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide it into the slot closest to the seat back.
3. From the bottom of the car seat, turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide through the slot furthest from the seat back placing the metal anchor flat against the top of the seat surface in a recessed area. 
   NOTE: Pull up on the buckle and check to be sure the metal anchor sits flat against the top surface of the seat. 

4. Lower the seat pad onto the seat and pull the buckle up through the pad.

   

Reclining the Combination Toddler/ Booster Car Seat

This car seat is equipped with a recline foot to provide additional comfort for your child. The car seat can be used in the reclined or upright position as both a toddler car seat (with harness) and as a booster car seat  (without harness).

To Recline the Car Seat:

1. If the car seat is secured to the vehicle with LATCH or a vehicle belt, remove the car seat from the vehicle. See: “To Remove Car Seat:” section.

2. Grasp the red recline handle and push down, then rotate the recline foot rearward until it locks into the reclined position. (Fig. 1).
   The car seat is now in the reclined position (Fig. 2).

   

To Position Car Seat Upright:

1. If the car seat is secured to the vehicle with LATCH or a vehicle belt, remove the car seat from the vehicle. See: “To Remove Car Seat:” section.

2. Grasp the red recline handle and pull down, then rotate the recline foot forward until it locks into the upright position. (Fig. 3)

   

The car seat is now in the upright position.

Installing Harness

To install shoulder harness straps:

1. Feed sewn loop at the end of each shoulder harness strap up through one lap belt slot  A (Fig. 1). 

   

   The Energy-Absorbing Harness Pads with metal plates should rest against the bottom of the seat.

2. Thread harness straps into buckle tongues, from back to front.
   Thread the harness straps through the harness retainer C and harness covers D
   Make sure the harness is not twisted.

3. Slide harness ends through the proper shoulder harness slot for your child’s size. From the back of the car seat, pull-shoulder harness straps through the back (Fig. 2).

   

4. Remove the metal splitter plate from its storage loop on the back of the seat.
5. Pull the metal splitter plate out.
6. Thread loops on the shoulder harness strap end onto the metal splitter plate (Fig. 3).

7. Make sure both sides of the shoulder harness straps are placed into slots on a metal splitter plate (Fig. 4).

To Secure Crotch Strap in Forward Crotch Belt Slot: 

1. Turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide it all the way through the car seat shell in the forward crotch belt slot (Fig. 1).

   

   Pull up on belt to make sure it is properly secured.

To Secure Crotch Strap in Rear Crotch Belt Slot:

1. From the top of the car seat, hold the crotch strap so that the red release button is facing the front of the car seat.
2. Turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide it into the slot closest to the seat back.
3. From the bottom of the car seat, turn the metal crotch strap anchor sideways and slide through the slot furthest from the seat back placing the metal anchor flat against the top of the seat surface in a recessed area. 
   NOTE: Pull up on the buckle and check to be sure the metal anchor sits flat against the top surface of the seat. 

4. Lower the seat pad onto the seat and pull the buckle up through the pad.

   

Top Tether Use

Most vehicles made after 9/1/99 already have the top tether anchorage hardware for a tether. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual. If your vehicle does not have a top tether anchor, see your vehicle dealer.
To Attach Top Tether:

• Place the opening in the tether hook over the top tether anchorage, push down, and pull back to attach the hook to a vehicle (Fig. 1).

  

To Tighten the Tether Strap:

• Pull on the free end of the tether strap.

To Remove Top Tether:

• Push the release button in and move the adjuster away from the car seat (Fig. 2).

• Push up on retainer spring 1 and unhook the tether hook from the top tether anchor 2 (Fig. 3).

  

Setup Guide 

To set up the Kidsembrace Astronaut 2-in-1 Harness Car Seat, follow these steps:

1. Place the car seat on the vehicle seat and ensure it is flat and stable.
2. Adjust the recline angle to the appropriate position for your child's age and weight.
3. Attach the LATCH connectors to the lower anchors in your vehicle.
4. Tighten the LATCH strap by pulling it upwards until the car seat is firmly secured.
5. Adjust the 5-point harness to the appropriate height for your child's shoulders.
6. Buckle the harness and tighten it by pulling the adjustment strap at the front of the seat until the harness is snug against your child's body.
7. Check that the car seat is securely installed and the harness is properly adjusted before each ride.

WARNING! DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur

• Failure to follow these instructions and car seat labels can result in injury or death to a child from striking the vehicle's interior during a sudden stop or crash.
• Use only with children who are over 1 year old and who weigh between 22 and 100 lbs (10 and 45 kg) and whose height is between 29 and 57 inches (74 and 145 cm).
• Use this car seat only on vehicle seats that face forward.
• For use WITH 5 Pt. harness system:
  • Snugly adjust the harness belts provided with this child restraint around your child.
  • Position harness straps in harness slots at or above the shoulders.
• Secure this car seat with the vehicle’s child restraint anchorage system (LATCH) if available or with a vehicle belt.  Always use tether if a tether anchor is available.
• Secure the top tether strap provided with this car seat as specified in both the vehicle and car seat owner manuals.
• Use only if the LATCH belt or vehicle seat belt can be tightened properly and securely.
  • The LATCH belt or vehicle seat belt must stay tightly adjusted at the belt path.
  • For harness use, do not use the lower anchors of the child restraint anchorage system (LATCH system) to attach this child restraint when restraining a child weighing more than 45 lb. (20 kg.) with the internal harnesses of the child restraint.
• •    Discontinue the use of the harness system when the child’s weight exceeds 65 pounds (30 kg) or shoulders are above the top shoulder belt slots.

For use WITHOUT harness system:

• Use only the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belt system when restraining the child in this booster seat.
• Never use a Booster Car Seat with only a lap belt.
• Discontinue the use of this car seat when the top of your child’s ears is above the top of the headrest.
• KidsEmbrace  does not recommend the use of any car seat accessories except those manufactured by KidsEmbraceTM
• The use of accessories or parts from other manufacturers could alter the performance of the car seat.
• Do not use a car seat with damaged or missing parts.
• Do not use a cut, frayed, or damaged harness.
• Do not substitute parts or try to modify the car seat in any way.
• Do not lubricate buckles and fasteners.
• This car seat should be securely belted in the vehicle even when not in use. In a crash or sudden stop, an unsecured child restraint could injure other occupants.
• DO NOT use this car seat if it has been in a crash, it must be replaced. A crash can cause unseen damage, and continued use could result in serious injury or death.
• Avoid burns; car seat surfaces can become hot inside a vehicle. Always check the surfaces of the car seat before placing a child in the seat.
• Register your car seat with the manufacturer.
