Detailed Description
The ZBS00 uses a Decora-style rocker paddle for direct ON/OFF operation. Press the top of the paddle to turn the connected load on, and press the bottom to turn it off. A locator LED remains illuminated when the switch is off, helping identify the control in a dark room.
The switch communicates with other GreenConnect devices through a 2.4 GHz mesh network. One compatible load controller, dimmer, or wall switch must act as the network manager when a new GreenConnect network is created. Battery-powered companions, sensors, and receptacles can join a network but cannot create one.
A GreenConnect network can contain a maximum combined total of 16 load controllers, wall stations, receptacles, and sensors. For installations requiring more devices, compatible GreenMAX DRC wireless room controllers can be used as part of the system.
The supported device family includes switching and dimming load controllers, wall dimmers, companion switches, companion dimmers, controlled receptacles, and PIR occupancy/daylight sensors. The ZBS00 itself provides ON/OFF switching rather than load dimming.
Safety
- Switch off power at the circuit breaker or fuse before wiring, and verify that the circuit is de-energized with an appropriate tester.
- Installation must comply with applicable electrical codes and regulations.
- Consult a qualified electrician if any wiring or installation step is unclear.
- Use copper or copper-clad wire only.
- Install the device indoors only.
- Do not leave exposed copper outside the wire connectors.
- Maintain at least 7.9 inches (20 cm) between the device’s radio source and your body during normal operation.
- Do not install the transmitter alongside or directly with another antenna or transmitter.
- Save the installation instructions for future reference.
Setup and Operation
Before Installation
Confirm that the installation location is within wireless network range and that a compatible load is connected. Prepare a single-gang device box, copper or copper-clad conductors, wire connectors, the supplied mounting screws, and a compatible Decora faceplate.
Wiring and Physical Installation
- Turn off the branch-circuit breaker or remove the fuse. Test the wires to confirm that power is off.
- Remove approximately 0.75 inch of insulation from the line and load conductors.
- Remove the precut insulation from the load-controller wires where applicable.
- Connect line, neutral, load, and ground conductors according to the device wiring diagram. Tighten each connection securely and check that no copper is exposed.
- Carefully fold the wires into the wall box and secure the switch with the supplied screws. Avoid sharply bending or pinching the conductors.
- Restore power and test the rocker. The connected load should respond to the ON and OFF commands.
- Verify that the locator LED is illuminated when the load is off.
- If needed, change the switch color before installing the faceplate.
- Install the Decora faceplate.
- Enroll the switch in the GreenConnect network and configure the required operating features.
Creating a GreenConnect Network
- On a compatible load controller, dimmer, or switch, press and hold the top paddle for approximately 5–9 seconds, then release it when the LED indicates the main menu.
- From the main menu, tap the top paddle twice. The device resets as the network manager, and the load toggles OFF-ON twice when the network opens.
- Keep the network open while enrolling additional devices. The network manager’s LED periodically indicates the number of enrolled devices.
- After all devices are enrolled, tap the top paddle on the network manager once to close the network. The connected loads toggle OFF-ON twice to confirm closure.
The network also closes automatically after 10 minutes if no additional device joins.
Joining an Existing Network
- Open the network from a load controller, dimmer, switch, or receptacle that already belongs to the desired network.
- Make sure that no other nearby GreenConnect network is open. Multiple open networks can cause a device to join the wrong system.
- On the ZBS00, enter the main menu and tap the top paddle once.
- The LED blinks green while the switch searches for a network.
- When enrollment succeeds, the connected loads toggle OFF-ON twice with the other network devices.
- Repeat the process for each additional device.
If no network is found within approximately two minutes, the LED stops blinking and the switch exits the menu. To join a GreenMAX DRC wireless network, place the switch in network-search mode and follow the room controller’s enrollment procedure.
LED Diagnostic Indicators
- Red, three blinks: Device is not connected.
- Green, three blinks: Active connection.
- Green, two blinks: Incomplete connection.
- Green, one blink: Inactive connection.
- Yellow, one blink: Main menu or menu exit confirmation, depending on the action.
- Yellow, two blinks: Reset confirmation.
- Red blinking: Network-manager activity or network reset status.
Entering the Main Menu
Press and hold the top paddle for about four seconds to view the device diagnostic indication. Continue holding for approximately seven seconds more until the LED blinks yellow once, then release. The LED blinks yellow rapidly while the switch is at the main menu.
Press and hold the top paddle for approximately seven seconds to return from a feature menu to the main menu. Press and hold again for approximately seven seconds to leave the main menu.
Feature Settings
Features 3 through 9 are stored in the network manager. To access one, enter the network manager’s main menu and tap the top paddle the number of times matching the feature number. The LED reports the selected feature and its current setting. Tap the paddle the required number of times to choose a new value.
- Feature 3, occupancy auto-ON level: 100%, 50%, 25%, manual-ON vacancy mode, or restore last level. Restore last level is the default.
- Feature 4, occupancy sensitivity: Medium, Low, or High. High is the default.
- Feature 5, vacancy time-out: Test mode, 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, or disabled. The default is 20 minutes.
- Feature 6, partial-OFF level: Disabled, 50%, or 25%. Disabled is the default.
- Feature 7, partial-OFF time-out: 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 10 minutes, or 5 minutes. The default is 20 minutes.
- Feature 8, daylighting target: Disabled, 25 footcandles, 35 footcandles, or 45 footcandles. Disabled is the default.
- Feature 9, vacancy level: 0%, 50%, or 25%. The default is 0%.
The test-mode vacancy setting operates for 60 seconds during a five-minute test period and then returns to the previous setting. Allow up to three minutes of inactivity for the feature menu to close automatically. When changing occupancy sensitivity, ensure the sensor is not in power-save mode.
Local and Network Control
Feature 10 determines whether the switch controls only its local load or participates in network control. The default setting is Local.
- Enter the switch’s main menu.
- Tap the top paddle ten times to open feature menu 10.
- Tap the paddle once to select Network control.
- Use the LED blink pattern to confirm the new setting.
With Network control enabled, the switch controls its local lighting load and the other loads assigned to the network. Return to the main menu or wait for the feature menu to exit automatically after approximately three minutes of inactivity.
Resetting the Switch
To restore default settings and remove the switch from its network, press and hold the top paddle for approximately 12 seconds. Release it after the LED blinks yellow twice. The LED then blinks red while the switch leaves the network and resets.
If the ZBS00 was the network manager, resetting it breaks that network and disconnects the devices enrolled in it.
