The Tower 1.7L Boil Black Kettle T10040 is made of high-quality stainless steel and features a cordless design for easy use. It has a 360-degree base with a cord storage feature, making it convenient to place the kettle on the table or countertop. The kettle has a powerful rapid boil element, which allows for quick and efficient heating. It also has an automatic shut-off feature, which turns off the kettle once the water has reached boiling point. The kettle has a water level indicator, so you can easily see how much water is inside. The kettle is lightweight and easy to pour, with a comfortable handle and a drip-free spout.
Before First Use
- Remove the parts from the packaging.
- Clean your kettle by going through several boiling cycles, using clean water with each cycle and filling the kettle to its upper marking. The water will reach boiling point after approximately 5 minutes. The kettle switches off automatically.
- Discard the boiled water. Wait for the kettle to cool, then rinse it with cold water.
- Your appliance is now ready for normal use.
- Dispose of the packaging in a responsible manner.
Using Your Appliance
- Fill the kettle using either the spout or lid. Open the lid by pressing the lid release button.
- The water level must be between the MAX and MIN fill lines.
- Check that the lid is closed correctly.
- Ensure that the base unit and the base of your kettle are not wet.
- Place the kettle onto the base unit and plug in.
- Switch the kettle on by pressing down the On/Off switch located underneath the handle to the On position.
- A light will illuminate inside the kettle when it is turned on.
Note: The ON/OFF switch will also automatically return to the OFF position when it is finished boiling.
Note: You can stop the boil process at any time by pushing the ON/OFF switch up to the off position. - Ensure the kettle is switched off before removing it from its base. DO NOT remove the kettle from its base while it is in operation.
- If you need to boil the kettle again, wait for a few seconds - allow the On/Off switch time to reset. The delay should be no more than 20 seconds.
- When you lift the kettle up from the base, you may see drops of water on the base. This is just condensation from steam.
- To avoid splashing or spilling, pour the kettle slowly and do not over-tilt it.
WARNING! NEVER REMOVE THE LID DURING BOILING. IF THE WATER INSIDE THE KETTLE HAS JUST BOILED, THE KETTLE WILL BE FULL OF STEAM. THE STEAM WILL ESCAPE AS SOON AS THE LID IS OPENED.
Tips: Improve the quality of your drinks by always using fresh water. Empty the kettle after each use. Be economical and efficient and do not boil more water than you need.
Boil Dry Protection
- Your kettle will switch off automatically if you try to use it with too little water or if it is empty.
- If this happens, ensure the ON/OFF switch is in the off position, remove it from the base unit and allow it to cool down before re-filling.
- Wait at least 15 minutes for the cut-out to reset before refilling with cold water and boiling.
CAUTION! DO NOT switch the kettle on unless it contains at least one cup of water to avoid damaging the appliance and shortening its lifespan.
Filter
- Your kettle is fitted with a filter. The filter helps to prevent limescale from
- Getting into your drink.
- The filter should be cleaned regularly, in particular if there are noticeable deposits left on it, or if pouring is affected in any way.
- To clean the filter, rinse it under the tap.

Tower 1.7L Kettle T10040 Cleaning & Care
Cleaning The Outside and Base Unit
- Remove the plug from the mains socket and allow the appliance to cool down before cleaning.
- Do not immerse the base unit, kettle or plug/power cord in water or any other liquid.
- Clean the base unit and outside of the appliance by wiping it with a damp cloth. A little detergent can be added if needed.
- Do not use scouring pads, steel wool, any form of strong solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the appliance, as they may damage the outside surfaces.
De-Scaling
IMPORTANT: Failure to de-scale your kettle may invalidate your guarantee.
If you do not de-scale your kettle regularly, the build-up of limescale may result in the following:
- The kettle taking longer to boil.
- Damage to the heating element.
- The safety cut out may operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water has boiled.
To Minimise Scale Build-Up
- Empty the kettle of water after each use.
- Do not allow water to stand in the kettle overnight.
- Use filtered water instead of tap water to help reduce lime-scale build up.
How To De-Scale
Note: Should the appliance switch ON before reaching boiling point this is a sign that de-scaling is necessary.
- Any regular de-scaling agent may be used, provided the relevant instructions are observed. To avoid spillage, DO NOT fill the kettle to the upper mark if the de-scaling agent causes the water to foam.
- To clean the kettle thoroughly of any de-calcification residue; let it go through several boiling cycles using clean water with each cycle. Rinse the kettle with clean water afterwards.
- It is advisable to remove limescale deposits from the kettle at regular intervals.
Removing Limescale Build-up: If using a kettle cleaning solution make sure to follow the instructions.
Natural Cleaning Method for Limescale Removal
- Fill the kettle with equal parts water and vinegar (white wine vinegar, cider vinegar or lemon juice work particularly well). Allow the kettle to boil (pay attention that the contents do not boil over) and let it stand for 30-40 minutes.
- When finished empty the kettle and rinse it with water.
- The kettle should now be free from limescale and ready to be used again.
Wiring Safety for UK Use Only

- The plug must be fitted with a fuse of the same rating already fitted and conforming to BS 1362 and be ASTA approved.
- If in doubt consult a qualified electrician who will be pleased to do this for you.
Non-Rewireable Mains Plug
- If your appliance is supplied with a non-rewireable plug fitted to the mains lead and should the fuse need replacing, you must use an ASTA approved one (conforming to BS 1362 of the same rating).
