Detailed Description
The HEA1 139 uses a fan-assisted heating element to draw room air through the air intake, warm it, and discharge it through the air outlet. A mechanical thermostat cycles the heating function on and off to help maintain the selected room temperature.
The main controls are located on the front of the unit. The combined On/Off/Fan/Heat switch selects the operating mode, while the thermostat adjusts the target temperature. The indicator illuminates while the heater is actively operating and switches on and off as the thermostat maintains the selected temperature.
- Air outlet: Releases heated or circulated air.
- On/Off/Fan/Heat switch: Selects off, fan-only, low-heat, or high-heat operation.
- Indicator: Shows when the heating system is operating or cycling to maintain temperature.
- Thermostat: Adjusts the desired room temperature.
- Air intake: Draws room air into the heater and must remain unobstructed.
- Inset horizontal mounting position: Identifies the flat position shown for the unit; operation is restricted to the upright position.
Safety
Read all operating instructions before using the HEA1 139 Flat or Upright Fan Heater. Incorrect placement, restricted airflow, or damaged electrical components can create a fire, burn, or electric-shock hazard.
- Operate the heater only in the upright position on a solid, level, non-flammable surface such as stone, slate, ceramic, or concrete.
- Do not cover the heater or block the air intake and outlet.
- Keep curtains, textiles, soft furnishings, hearth rugs, and other flammable materials at least 1 metre from the air outlet.
- Do not place the heater on carpet, rugs, or other soft floor coverings.
- Do not position the heater directly below an electrical socket.
- Connect the heater only to a mains supply matching the voltage on its data plate.
- Do not use an extension cable with this heater.
- Keep the heater away from baths, showers, swimming pools, water, flammable materials, and high-pressure containers.
- Do not use the appliance outdoors, in garages, stables, wooden sheds, or areas where flammable gases or dust may develop.
- Never immerse the heater, plug, or power cord in water or another liquid.
- Do not push objects into any opening.
- Keep children under 3 years away unless continuously supervised.
- Children aged 3 to under 8 may switch the heater on or off only when it is correctly positioned and they are supervised or instructed. They must not plug in, adjust, clean, or maintain it.
- Children aged 8 and above and people with reduced physical, sensory, or mental abilities may use the heater only with suitable supervision or instruction.
- Some surfaces become very hot during operation. Take particular care around children and vulnerable people.
- Do not leave the heater unattended while operating or connected to the mains.
- Do not operate the unit if the plug or cord is damaged, or if the heater has malfunctioned, been dropped, or suffered other damage.
- Keep the power cord away from sharp edges, hot surfaces, carpets, and rugs. Do not allow it to hang where it can be pulled.
- Unplug the heater after every use by gripping the plug rather than pulling the cord.
- Allow the heater to cool completely before moving or storing it.
- Use the appliance only for domestic heating and not for industrial purposes.
- Do not use attachments or accessories other than those supplied or recommended for the appliance.
- Electrical repairs must be performed by qualified personnel.
A slight odour or small amount of smoke may occur during the first few minutes of initial use. This can result from the protective coating on the heating elements and should quickly disappear.
Setup and Operation
Before first use
- Check the heater for damage and confirm that the supplied parts are present.
- Remove and responsibly recycle or dispose of the packaging.
- Place the heater upright on a solid, level, non-flammable surface.
- Make sure the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch is set to the off position marked O.
- Check that the local mains voltage matches the rating on the heater data plate.
Low-heat operation
- Insert the mains plug into a suitable wall socket.
- Turn the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch to the low-heat setting.
- Adjust the thermostat clockwise to raise the selected temperature or anticlockwise to lower it.
High-heat operation
- Connect the heater to the mains with the control set to off.
- Turn the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch to the high-heat setting.
- Use the thermostat to select the desired room temperature.
Setting the thermostat
- Select the required heat level.
- Turn the thermostat fully clockwise and allow the room to warm.
- When the desired temperature is reached, turn the thermostat anticlockwise until the heater just switches off.
- Turn the thermostat slightly clockwise again. The heater will then cycle as needed to maintain the selected temperature.
- Fine-tune the control gradually if the room becomes warmer or cooler than preferred.
The indicator may illuminate and go out repeatedly while the thermostat maintains the selected temperature. This cycling is normal.
Fan-only mode
Turn the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch to the fan-only position for cool-air circulation without active heating. The thermostat must be turned fully clockwise for the fan-only function to operate.
Switching off
Return the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch to the O position, then unplug the heater from the mains. Do not leave the appliance connected when it is not in use.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Switch off and unplug the heater before cleaning.
- Allow the unit to cool completely.
- Wipe the exterior with a clean, damp cloth.
- Do not use harsh, abrasive, or solvent-based cleaners.
- Never submerge any part of the heater in water or another liquid.
- Keep the air intake and outlet clear of dust, furnishings, and other obstructions.
- Do not wrap the mains cable around the appliance.
- Store the heater only after it has cooled fully.
Troubleshooting
The heater does not operate
- Confirm that the mains plug is fully inserted into the wall socket.
- Check that the On/Off/Fan/Heat switch is not in the off position.
- Check that the thermostat is set high enough to request heat.
- Inspect the power cord and plug for visible damage. Do not use the heater if damage is present.
The fan does not operate in fan-only mode
- Confirm that the switch is set to the fan-only position.
- Turn the thermostat fully clockwise, as required for fan-only operation.
The heater stops during use
The unit includes a built-in safety cut-out. If it activates, switch off and unplug the heater. Check that the air intake is not blocked or covered, then leave the appliance to cool and reset for one hour before reconnecting it.
The room is not warming sufficiently
- Check that the high-heat setting is selected when maximum output is required.
- Ensure the air intake and outlet are unobstructed.
- Check that curtains, furniture, rugs, or other items are not too close to the heater.
- Adjust the thermostat gradually after the room has had time to warm.
Recycling and Disposal
Separate paper and cardboard packaging for paper recycling, and place recyclable plastics in the appropriate plastics collection service. Do not dispose of the heater with ordinary household waste or send it to landfill. Waste electrical equipment should be taken to a suitable recycling facility in accordance with local requirements.
Mains Plug Safety
If the non-rewireable plug fuse requires replacement, use an ASTA-approved fuse conforming to BS 1362 with the same rating. Never use a plug with its fuse cover missing.
If the plug must be removed, disconnect the heater from the mains first, cut off the plug, and dispose of it safely. Never reuse the removed plug or insert it into a socket because it may cause electric shock.
Warranty
The product includes a standard one-year guarantee from the original purchase date when proof of purchase is available. An additional two-year warranty may be available when the product is registered within 28 days of purchase, subject to the stated warranty conditions.
- The heater must be installed and operated according to the instructions.
- Coverage is for domestic use only.
