Battery charge

The UPS charges the battery as soon as it is connected to the AC outlet, whether the ON/OFF button 9 is pressed or not. When used for the first time, the battery will only provide its maximum autonomy after it has been charged for 8 hours. It is recommended that the UPS be permanently connected to the AC power supply to ensure the best possible autonomy.

AC-power disturbance

  • If AC power is disturbed or fails, the UPS continues to operate on battery power. UPS status LED 3 flashes green. In normal mode, the audio alarm beeps every five seconds, then every two seconds when the end of battery backup time is near.
  • If the power outage lasts longer than the battery backup time, the UPS shuts down and automatically restarts when power is restored. Following a complete discharge, 10 hours are required to recharge the battery back to full backup time.
  • To save battery power, it is possible to press the ON/OFF button 9 times to cut the supply of power to the devices connected to the battery backup outlets.

Protected outlets

  • All protected outlets 1 provide surge protection, whatever the position of the ON/OFF button 9 . The Surge protection LED 6 provides the status of the protection. When the Surge Protection LED 6 is OFF, your protection is defective. Please contact after-sales services or the local representative.

Equipment Care

  • For full battery life, keep the equipment at an ambient temperature of 25 °C (77 °F). Battery service life is reduced by 50 % for every ten degrees above 25 °C.
  • If the UPS requires any type of transportation, verify that the UPS is turned off.

Battery replacement
For battery replacement, follow the Eaton instructions provided on www.eaton.eu/BatteryServices. The following precautions should be observed when working on batteries:

  • shut down the UPS (ON/OFF button 9 ),
  • disconnect the source before connecting or disconnecting battery terminals,
  • do not wear any metal objects, including watches and rings,
  • Do not lay tools or metal parts on top of batteries;
  • It is imperative to use the same battery type and number.

CAUTION: Batteries present a risk of electrical shock or burn from high short circuit current. Observe proper precautions. Batteries may contain HIGH VOLTAGE and CORROSIVE, TOXIC ,  C, and EXPLOSIVE substances. Because of the battery,ry the output receptacles may carry high voltages even when the AC supply is not connected to the UPS. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. When exposed to flame, batteries may explode. Do not open or mutilate the battery or batteries. Released electrolytes are harmful to the skin and eyes and may be extremely toxic.

Faqs

How do I set up the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply for the first time?

To set up the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply, first connect the UPS to a grounded AC power outlet. Remove the battery compartment cover and connect the battery wires (positive and negative) as they are shipped disconnected for safety. After connecting the battery, replace the cover and press the ON/OFF button to power on. It is recommended to charge the battery for at least eight hours before use to ensure full capacity. Then plug your critical devices into the battery backup outlets for surge protection and emergency power[2][4][5].

What should I do if the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply does not power on?

If your Eaton 3S UPS does not power on, first verify that the battery wires inside the unit are properly connected since they are shipped disconnected for safety. Next, ensure the UPS is plugged into a grounded power outlet. If the battery is completely discharged, allow it to charge for at least eight hours before turning on. Also, check that the ON/OFF button is held down for three seconds during startup. If issues persist, consult the user manual troubleshooting section or contact support for battery replacement advice[2][4][7].

Can I use Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply with laser printers or surge strips?

No, the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply battery backup outlets should not be used with laser printers or accessory surge strips. Laser printers have high startup current that can overload the UPS, and surge strips can interfere with the UPS's protection function. Instead, connect laser printers and similar accessories directly to surge-only outlets or separate power sources, while reserving the UPS battery backup outlets for critical equipment like computers and monitors to maintain power during outages and protect from surges[2][5].

How does the EcoControl feature work on the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply?

The Eaton 3S UPS models with EcoControl feature allow you to reduce phantom power loss by designating one master device outlet and several controlled peripheral outlets. When the master device (like a computer) is turned off or in standby, the UPS automatically shuts power to the peripheral devices (printers, scanners) connected to the controlled outlets. This helps optimize energy use and extend battery life during power interruptions, making EcoControl a useful power-saving feature for office setups[6].

What maintenance is required to keep the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply in good condition?

To maintain your Eaton 3S UPS, regularly inspect and clean the unit to prevent dust buildup in vents and outlets. Test the battery periodically by simulating a power outage to ensure backup functionality. Replace the internal battery every 3 to 5 years or if the UPS signals declining runtime. Always disconnect the battery before transporting the UPS to avoid damage. Following these maintenance steps will ensure optimal performance and prolong the life of your Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply[2][7].

What are the recommended installation positions for the Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply?

The Eaton 3S UPS can be installed free-standing, wall-mounted, or placed horizontally or vertically. For 450 VA and 550 VA models, the mounting screw distance is 230 mm; for 700 VA and 850 VA models, it’s 240 mm. Avoid placing the unit on its right side, and for smaller models (3S450 and 3S550), do not place the UPS on its side to prevent damage. Proper positioning ensures efficient cooling and reliable operation[1][5][7].

How do I configure the voltage output on the Eaton 3S Mini UPS model?

To configure the output voltage on the Eaton 3S Mini UPS, first disconnect all connected equipment. Then press and hold the ON/OFF button for eight seconds until the LED flashes slowly. Release the button and cycle through output voltages (9V, 12V, 15V, or 19V) to match your device’s nominal input voltage. This setting ensures compatibility and stable power supply for your connected equipment. After selection, reconnect devices and power on the UPS normally[3].

What troubleshooting steps can resolve common Eaton 3S Uninterruptible Power Supply problems?

For common Eaton 3S UPS issues like failure to charge, unexpected shutdowns, or alarms, first check battery connections inside the unit. Ensure the UPS is connected to a grounded outlet and not overloaded. Restart the UPS after disconnecting all devices to isolate the problem. If the UPS beeps continuously, it may indicate battery failure requiring replacement. Also, update or reinstall UPS management software if communication problems occur. Refer to the user manual for error codes and contact Eaton support if problems persist[2][7].
