How Your Air Purifier Works
This model air purifier incorporates a 3-stage cleaning system to help clean the air that passes through the filter in the unit.
- Washable Pre-Filter
- Permanent Washable IFD™ Filter
- Electronic Ionizer
Set-Up
- Select a firm, level and flat location. For proper airflow, locate the unit at least 3 feet (1 M) from any wall or furniture.
- When operating, large volumes of air are drawn toward the air purifier. Surrounding areas should be cleaned and/or vacuumed frequently to prevent build-up of dust and other contaminates. This may also help prolong the life of the filter. If the unit is placed on a light colored carpet, a small mat or rug should be used underneath to prevent permanent staining. This is especially important in homes with contamination from smoking or fireplaces.
Honeywell QuietClean Air Purifier HFD-120 Operations
- Ensure the air purifier is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
Press the power button (POWER) once. The unit will start at medium speed for a few seconds and then automatically change to low speed.
- Press the power button again to select a different cleaning level.
It is recommended you run your air purifier 24 hours a day to ensure continuous cleaning. Portable air purifiers are more effective in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.
ELECTRONIC FILTER CLEAN REMINDER
This model air purifier has an electronic filter check to remind you when to check and clean the washable IFD filter based on the air purifier's hours of use. When the IFD filters need to be cleaned, the light will remain on until it is RESET. You may unplug the air cleaner without interrupting the filter check. A red LED light will illuminate when it is time to clean the filter. You should periodically check the filter. Depending on operating conditions, the filters should be cleaned at least once a month.
To RESET the Electronic Filter Check
When the filter monitor light remains on, it is time to check/clean the IFD filters and reset the filter monitor, if needed. With the unit powered on, insert the tip of a ball-point pen or paperclip next to the LED filter check light and hold for approximately 5 seconds until the light turns off (Fig. 3). Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used), you may need to check and clean the filters more or less frequently. If the IFD™ filters are cleaned before the filter monitor light turns on, the filter monitor should be reset at the same time.
These cleaning intervals are intended as guidelines only. Performance of any filter media is dependent upon the concentration of contaminates going through the system. High concentrations of contaminates such as dust, pet dander and smoking will reduce the useful performance of the filter.
OSCILLATION FEATURE
To help circulate fresher, cleaner air through the room, this unit has an oscillation feature.
To turn Oscillation on, simply press the Oscillation button
- To turn Oscillation Off, press the button again.
REMOVING THE FILTERS
The IFD filters are supplied within the air purifier.
- Turn-off and unplug the air purifier. While pressing on the notches along the rear grille, pull the grille towards you and remove it. Gently push along the edge of the filter frame and pull forward. Repeat for the second filter.
Place back into the air purifier housing and snap filter grille into place.
CLEANING THE IFD FILTERS
To clean the IFD filter:
- After removing the IFD™ Filter from the air purifier, lay the filter on a flat surface and run a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle or brush attachment along the filter to pick-up tiny particles. Repeat on both sides.
- If your IFD™ filter appears to have dirt that has not been removed by tapping and vacuuming, please follow the steps below to wash the IFD filter.
- Turn the power off and unplug the air purifier.
- Remove the IFD™ filter from the unit.
- Fill a sink with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap.
- Gently swish the filter in the soap solution to clean.
- Soak the filter for 2-3 minutes. Do not leave for an extended period of time.
Rinse the filter with clean tap water.
- Shake the filter to remove any excess water.
- Place the filter with the honeycomb side down on a plush towel.
- Note that the filter may still be discolored even after washing. This is acceptable and will not affect performance.
- Allow the IFD™ filter to dry for a few hours or overnight.
- When the IFD™ filter is completely dry, place back into the air purifier.
CAUTION
- Never place a wet IFD filter in your air purifier.
- The IFD™ Filter is NOT dishwasher safe. Do not place the IFD filter in a dishwasher or subject it to other extreme hot water conditions.
- Do not use any solvents, strong cleaning agents or flammable liquids to clean the IFD filter.
CLEANING THE PRE-FILTER
The particle pre-filter helps pick-up large airborne particles that enter the rear grille. This pre-filter can be removed and rinsed by hand under warm water. Let the pre-filter dry completely before inserting it back into the unit.
CLEANING AND STORAGE
We recommend that you clean the air purifier at least once a month and before extended storage. Use only a dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the air purifier. DO NOT USE WATER, WAX POLISH, OR ANY CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
