Installation

Safety

Please read all of the safety and operating instructions before using device:

  • Do not open the device or attempt to repair it.
  • Make sure that the microSD card slot cover is securely closed before placing the camera outside.
  • Do not submerge the device in liquid or attempt to clean it with liquids or solvents. To clean the device, disconnect it from the power outlet and use a damp towel to gently wipe it down.
  • Heating of the exterior may occur if the spotlight is activated for long periods of time. This may occur if the live-view is used continuously for an extended period of time. Heating will not cause damage, premature failure or safety issues.

Before you Begin

Plan the location of your camera:

  • Verify that your camera is electrically rated to operate with the power available in your location.
  • Connect the camera's power adapter into an electrical outlet that is not controlled by a wall switch. This will help avoid accidentally turning off power to the device.
  • Be sure to plug the device into a properly grounded electrical outlet in order to help prevent against electrical shock.
  • Make sure that the device is securely mounted.

Wireless Installation Considerations
The DCS-8627LH Full HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Spotlight Camera lets you view video footage from virtually anywhere within the operating range of your wireless network. Keep in mind that the number, thickness and location of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through may limit the range. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF (radio frequency) noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to follow these basic guidelines:

  1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings between the camera and wireless access point to a minimum - each wall or ceiling can reduce your camera’s range from 1 to 30 meters (3 to 90 feet). Position your devices so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized.
  2. Be aware of the direct line between network devices. A wall that is 0.5 meters (1.5 feet) thick, at a 45-degree angle appears to be almost 1 meter (3 feet) thick. At a 2-degree angle it looks over 14 meters (42 feet) thick! Position devices so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling (instead of at an angle) for better reception.
  3. Building materials make a difference. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative effect on range. Try
to position access points, wireless routers, and cameras so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways. Materials and objects such as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (fish tanks), mirrors, file cabinets, brick, and concrete will degrade your wireless signal.
  4. Keep your product away at least 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6 feet) from electrical devices or appliances that generate RF noise.

Mydlink App Camera Setup

  1. Download the mydlink app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) by scanning the QR code.
Note: Ensure that your device is wirelessly connected to the network that the DCS-8627LH will be in.
  2. Launch the mydlink app and create a new account or sign in to your existing account.
Note: If you are asked about allowing the app to access your location or to send notifications, select Allow. Make sure location services and Bluetooth are turned on in your phone’s settings.

    mydlink_app_camera_setup.png
  3. After logging in, tap the Menu button in the top-left corner.
  4. Select Add a Device.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the device setup.

    mydlink_app_camera_setup_of.png

Device Placement

Place the camera 6.5 to 8 feet (2 - 2.5 meters) from the ground. Person Detection works best when the subject is between 6.5 to 23 feet (2 - 7 meters) away from the camera.

Mounting the Camera (Pole Mount)

  1. Place the camera against a pole and hold it where you want it to be positioned.
  2. Thread the plastic mounting ties through the slots on the base of the device. Face the rough side of the plastic mounting ties to the pole to avoid slippage.
  3. Fasten the plastic mounting ties around the pole to secure the camera.

Mounting the Camera (Wall Mount)

  1. Place the camera against the wall or ceiling where you want it to be positioned. Use a pencil to make two marks where the holes are located.
  2. Use a 6 mm drill bit to drill two 26 mm deep holes over the pencil marks.
  3. Hammer in the plastic wall anchors to support the screws.

Troubleshooting

What do I do if my device is not working properly?
Reset the device and reinstall it. To reset your device, use a paper clip to press and hold the recessed Reset button until the LED turns solid red.

During installation, ensure that:

  • your router is connected to the Internet and has Wi-Fi enabled
  • your mobile device has Bluetooth enabled
  • your mydlink device is in range of your Wi-Fi network

Why is there a white haze when viewing in night vision mode?
When viewing in night vision mode, the IR lights on your camera may be reflecting off a nearby surface. Try repositioning your camera to avoid glare from IR LEDs.

How can I use voice commands to control my device?
The device will work with both Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. For setup instructions on these services, visit the following websites:
Alexa: https://dlink.com/en/alexa

The Google Assistant: https://dlink.com/en/google-assistant

Why is my microSD card not working/not supported?
The microSD card must be formatted into the correct file system (FAT32) before it can be used with this product. This can be done in the mydlink app by selecting the Format function in the storage menu under the Device settings.

What is Color Night Vision and how does it work?
Color Night Vision is enabled by default and will turn on automatically in order to show color images while viewing the Live View in low light scenarios. To turn it off, select disable under the device settings page for your camera. Disabling Color Night Vision means enabling Night Vision (Auto), where the IR LEDs will be activated and the live feed in low-light scenarios will be displayed in black and white.

Why does my device get so hot?
The device has a timeout for trigger actions, however, heating of the exterior may occur if the spotlight is activated for a long period of time. This may occur if live-view is used continuously for an extended period of time. Heating will not cause any safety issues (eg. fire) however we do not recommend continuous viewing in Color Night Vision mode.

Why do the Spotlight and Siren turn off after a period of time?
After they have been triggered, the Spotlight and Siren alerts will automatically turn off after a period of time in accordance to what has been set under the Auto-off Timer in the Device settings. You can select between 30, 60 and 90 seconds. The Auto-off Timer applies to manual controls in the Live View and Automation rules.
