Instructions

1. Insert SIM card: Locate the SIM card slot on the side of the device. Insert the SIM card into the slot and ensure it is securely in place.
2. Power on/off: Press and hold the power button located on the side of the device to turn it on or off.
3. Set up Wi-Fi: Go to the Settings menu, select "Wi-Fi," and follow the on-screen instructions to connect to a Wi-Fi network.
4. Install apps: Open the Google Play Store app, search for the desired app, and tap "Install" to download and install it.
5. Take photos: Open the Camera app, aim at the subject, and tap the shutter button to capture a photo.
6. Make calls: Open the Phone app, enter the desired phone number, and tap the call button to make a call.
7. Send messages: Open the Messaging app, select a contact or enter a phone number, and compose your message before tapping the send button.
8. Adjust settings: Go to the Settings menu to customize various aspects of your device, such as display, sound, notifications, and more.
9. Manage contacts: Open the Contacts app, tap the "+" button to add a new contact, and enter the contact's details.
10. Extend battery life: Enable power-saving mode, reduce screen brightness, close unused apps, and disable unnecessary features to conserve battery.

Proximity sensor

• Turns off the screen and disables touch functionality during a call when the device is in close proximity to the body.
• Turns the screen back on and enables touch functionality during a call when the device is outside a specific range from the body.

Power key

• Press to turn the screen on or off.
• Press and hold to select a power control option.

Volume keys

• Adjust the volume for ringtones, media, notifications, and system sounds. For more information, see Volume on page 145.
• In the camera app, press a volume key to take a photo.

Remove the back cover

1. Remove the back cover.
2. Lift the cover up and to the left of the device.

Caution: Do not bend or twist the back cover excessively. Using excessive force on the cover during the removal or installation of an internal component can cause the material to break.

Install a SIM card and a memory card.

• When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card. You may be able to use your previous SIM card. Contact your service provider for more details.
• Warning: Small components such as SIM cards and memory cards can pose a choking risk. Please be careful when handling these cards to avoid damaging them.

You can install an optional microSD™ memory card (not included) to add more memory space to your device. A memory card can be installed at any time. It is not necessary to install it before using the device.

1. Carefully slide the SIM card into the SIM card slot. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face down into the device and that the card is positioned as shown.

   

2. Slide the memory card into the slot with the gold contacts facing down.

   

Install the battery

The battery is installed in the back of the device.

1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the device, making sure the connectors align.
2. Gently press down to secure the battery.

Replace the back cover.
The back cover should be replaced before using the device. 

1. Place the back cover onto the back of the device and press down.
2. Press along the edge of the back cover until you have a secure seal.

Charge the battery

Your device is powered by a rechargeable battery. A charger  (charging head and USB cable) is included with the device for charging the battery from any standard outlet.

Note: You should dry the inside of the charging port before inserting a power connector to charge your device. If the charging port is not fully dry, your device may operate abnormally. For example, it may charge more slowly or overheat.
The battery comes partially charged. You can use the device while charging.

Caution: Use only charging devices and batteries (if applicable) that are approved by Samsung. Samsung charging devices and batteries are designed for your device to maximize battery life. Using other charging devices and batteries may void your warranty and may cause damage.

1. Insert the USB cable into the USB charger/Accessory port.
2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet.
3. Unplug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device when charging is complete.

Device maintenance

View the status of your device’s battery, storage, and memory. You can also automatically optimize your device’s system resources.

Quick optimization
The quick optimization feature improves device performance through the following actions:

• Identifying apps that use excessive battery power and clearing unneeded items from memory.
• Deleting unnecessary files and closing apps running in the background.
• Scanning for malware.

To use the quick optimization feature:

1. From  Settings, tap Device maintenance. 
2. Tap Optimize now.

Battery

View how battery power is used for device activities.

From Settings, tap Device maintenance > Battery for options:

• Battery usage: View power usage by item.
• Power saving mode: Select a power mode to extend battery life.
• App power monitor: View power usage by app.
• Unmonitored apps: Select apps to exclude from being put to sleep by the App power monitor.
• Always sleeping apps: Select apps to put to sleep immediately when not being used.
• More options > Advanced settings: Configure advanced battery settings and notifications.

Storage

View the device memory and usage. Mount, unmount, or format an optional memory card (not included).

• From Settings, tap Device maintenance > Storage.
• To increase available memory, tap Clean now.
